Our first speakers, Tom and Karin Thomas have for the past 12 years hosted visiting Afghan soldiers to Lackland AFB who are attending the Defense Language Institute before heading to other training in the US.
They have hosted hundreds of soldiers in their home and developed a unique perspective of these young men and of the Islamic ideology. Known as "Mom" to the visiting Afghan students, Karin has some amazing experiences to share and the impact of her involvement in these soldier's lives has had on her, her family and on the soldiers she has befriended.
They will be sharing some of those perspectives and separating the "person" from the "ideology" while providing a realistic and honest assessment of Islam as a religion, an ideology and the perils of its influence spreading here in the US.
Alejandro Ortiz lived in Mauritania for 16 years with his family living among a Muslim population while performing as a Southern Baptist Missionary.
The balancing act required of his family while living under the constant threat of Al Qaeda finding out his presence will make for a riveting presentation and a surprising perspective about the people he lived with.
His knowledge of Islam and the yoke it holds on Muslims will be explained as to why it is so difficult for any Muslim to make the choice of leaving the faith and becoming an apostate...a choice that from universally recognized Islamic scholars including Muhammad himself, call for the person's death.
